The Chargers exercised Slater's 2025 fifth-year option, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. This was a no-brainer for new Chargers GM Joe Hortiz. After missing most of 2022 with a torn biceps, Slater returned to start all 17 games last season. As a 2021 rookie, Slater finished fourth in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting, made the Pro Bowl and was a second-team All-Pro selection. Slater (illness) was able to practice Tuesday, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports. Slater sat out Sunday, but it appears the 24-year-old was able to make a quick recovery. Slater didn't participate in Sunday's scrimmage due to an illness, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports. Slater was one of several Chargers players who were absent Sunday due to an illness, although it seems unlikely that his regular-season availability will be impacted.
