Ravens LB Jason Babin released after miscue-filled game

Ravens linebacker Jason Babin was released by the Ravens on Tuesday. The Ravens were desperate for help at outside linebacker after Terrell Suggs (Achilles) suffered a season-ending injury, but Babin ultimately just made things worse, with his primary impact coming via careless penalties. Given how poorly he played, the 35-year-old Babin might not get another shot in the NFL.

Report: Ravens sign LB Jason Babin to one-year deal

Linebacker Jason Babin signed a one-year contract with the Ravens on Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. After losing Terrell Suggs to a season-ending Achilles injury in Sunday's opener against the Broncos, the Ravens moved quickly to bring in the veteran Babin to bolster their ranks at outside linebacker. Babin has shown plenty of pass-rushing ability in the past, most notably with an 18-sack campaign for the Eagles, but he's bounced around the league since that time. Now 35 years old, Babin is probably best suited for a part-time role at this stage of his career.

Jets LB Quinton Coples has played himself to the bench

Poor production has basically pushed Jets outside linebacker Quinton Coples to the bench. The 2012 first-round pick barely played Thursday night against New England. He was replaced by Jason Babin. Coples hasn't recorded more than two tackles in a game and has just five on the season. The game against the Patriots marked his first non-start of 2014. His fate appeared set when Babin took more reps than him in Week 6 against Denver. Although Rex Ryan downplayed that, Coples' benching against New England spoke volumes about his thoughts.
