Lions' DeAndre Levy: Placed on injured reserve

Levy (hip) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports. Shortly after signing a four-year extension in August, Levy came down with a hip injury that dogged him throughout the first month of the season. He finally made an appearance in Week 5, but he logged just 17 snaps without recording a tackle before aggravating the ailment. Following hip surgery, the Lions kept the door open for a return this season, but the decision was made Wednesday to shut him down for the season. Expect Josh Bynes to continue working as the nominal weakside linebacker in Detroit.

Lions' DeAndre Levy: Will begin jogging this week

Levy (hip) is hoping to begin light jogging this week while recovering from his hip surgery a couple weeks ago, the Lions' official site reports. Levy said of his status for the season, "It's going to be based on what my recovery is the next couple weeks and see how fast or slow things go and ultimately what will be best long-term." The All Pro last season has only played in one game this year. A return to the field this season would certainly help the woeful Lions, who sit in the NFC North cellar at 1-6.

Lions LB DeAndre Levy underwent hip surgery

Lions standout linebacker DeAndre Levy had surgery on his hip Wednesday, per Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. The Lions still haven't decided if they will place Levy on injured reserve - that decision will likely come closer to the beginning of November. Still, they just signed Levy to a $33 million extension in August, so it's unlikely they will rush one of their more valuable assets back onto the field in what already appears to be a lost season.

Lions' DeAndre Levy: Slated for hip surgery

Levy is slated for hip surgery, Michael Rothstein of reports. However, head coach Jim Caldwell told's Kyle Meinke that the linebacker won't immediately be placed on injured reserve. The preceding confirms a report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network that the Lions won't make the IR call for 2-to-3 weeks. If Levy's recovery proceeds quickly, there's the potential that he could play for at least the final month of the season. However, considering how his (and the Lions') season has gone to date, it's difficult to see him take the field over the final 11 games due to the $33-million investment made in August.

Lions LB DeAndre Levy good to go Sunday

Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy (hip) is active for the Week 5 contest against Arizona. Levy fit in all practice reps this week, intimating that he'll take on a full allotment of snaps in his season debut. After averaging more than nine tackles per game in 2014, he should return to Individual Defensive Player glory sooner rather than later.

Lions LB DeAndre Levy set for season debut

Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy (hip) will make his season debut Sunday against the Cardinals, the Detroit Free Press reports. Levy is ready to go after missing the first four games with the hip injury. He should give the unit a boost, and was one of the top Individual Defensive Player linebackers the last two seasons, so it's worth checking to see if he is available if you play in a Fantasy league that uses them.

Detroit Lions' DeAndre Levy Practices in full Thursday

Levy (hip) practiced in full Thursday, Kyle Meinke of reports. After taking on all practice reps to date this week, Levy is trending toward his season debut Sunday against the Cardinals. Lions LB DeAndre Levy (hip) practices again Friday

Lions linebacker DeAndre Levy (hip) practiced for the second straight day on Friday, but remains questionable for Monday night's game against Seattle, the Detroit Free Press reports. Defensive coordinator Teryl Austin told reporters that he expects Detroit's defense to receive a big lift when Levy returns, whether it is this week or in the weeks to come. While Levy can be expected to jump back on the 100-tackles-per-season pace he has enjoyed in three of the past four seasons, it isn't as though his replacement, Josh Bynes, has been the problem in Detroit. Bynes is on pace for 107 tackles and is rated as Pro Football Focus' sixth-best 4-3 outside linebacker. Levy will certainly bring some intangibles back into the Lions' defense, but don't expect him to be a cure-all.
