Smith (knee) was activated from injured reserve Tuesday, per the NHL media site.
Smith, who has missed the past 10 games, will be an option for Tuesday's contest against Nashville. If he plays, Santeri Hatakka or Colin Miller could be scratched. Smith has five points, 47 PIM, 42 blocked shots and 67 hits in 34 outings this season.
