Hedman is likely to get a contract extension this summer, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Hedman actually won't be an unrestricted free agent until 2017-18, though general manager Steve Yzerman could wind up restructuring the big puck mover's contract before next season. He currently comes with a cap hit of $4 million and is due for a raise after dazzling yet again this year. Hedman finished with 47 points in 78 regular season games, followed by 14 more in the playoffs. As suggested in the report, the team's top priority will be re-signing superstar forward Steven Stamkos with Hedman's agent saying they'll practice patience in waiting for a new deal. There are rumblings that Hedman could command around $9 million annually, which is consistent with how much P.K. Subban, a star defenseman for the Candiens, currently makes.
