We already have a big-boy leaderboard at the PGA Championship just 36 holes in and there's still a ton of golf left to play.
One thing that's struck me this year at the majors is how easily the big names have taken over the tournament early. Here are your second-round leaders at each of the four:
Masters
Jason Day, Fred Couples, Marc Leishman, Angel Cabrera, Jim Furyk, and Brandt Snedeker.
US Open
Billy Horschel, Phil Mickelson, Luke Donald, Justin Rose, and Steve Stricker.
British Open
Miguel Angel Jimenez, Lee Westwood, Dustin Johnson, Tiger Woods, and Henrik Stenson.
PGA Championship
Jason Dufner, Matt Kuchar, Adam Scott, Jim Furyk, Justin Rose, and Henrik Stenson.
My goodness, those are some heavyweights.
So I think that's one story line going to the weekend at Oak Hill -- and when we look back on this year will help push it over the top as one of the best major years in recent memory -- but there are plenty of other stories as well. Here are five I'll be following.
1. Double dip for Scott or Rose -- Both Adam Scott and Justin Rose are within three of the lead. A win for Scott would mean the first Masters and PGA champion in the same year since Jack Nicklaus did it in 1975. A win for Rose would mean the first US Open and PGA champion in the same year since Tiger in 2000. Decent company.
2. First for Kuchar or Dufner -- It's weird that Lucas Glover, Trevor Immelman, and YE Yang are all major champions but Kuchar and Dufner aren't. Either winning would be a really fun story though for totally different reasons -- Dufner was the walk-on and Kuchar the family man. Both have come a long way.
3. Course conditions -- I have to be honest, I thought something like 3 under was going to win this week at Oak Hill so I'm shocked that Dufner reached 9 under on day two. I think the course will dry out a little bit but it's hard to see anything worse than 10 under winning.
4. Tiger's tale -- Does Woods fade into oblivion for the fifth straight year or will there be a buzz after he shoots a third-round 64? I have no idea what to expect anymore.
5. Sweet Swede -- Henrik Stenson is lurking. I'm mostly saying this because he was my pre-tournament pick. But he's still only three back and hitting the ball splendidly. A second at Muirfield will have him hungry to seal the deal but he's got pretty spectacular golfers in front of him he'll have to pass.
