New York at Chicago

Venue: Wrigley Field
  •

Owners of the worst record in the majors and coming off another blowout loss, the Chicago Cubs are starting to show their frustration.

Things likely won't get any easier Tuesday night when they welcome the surging New York Mets to Wrigley Field.

Chicago (20-34) concluded a 4-6 trip by recording three hits during a 9-0 defeat to Milwaukee on Sunday. It was the third time in five games the Cubs were shut out and fifth of the trip they lost by at least four runs.

First baseman Anthony Rizzo was ejected Sunday for arguing a called third strike, a sign that the potential for another dismal season is already wearing on the Cubs.

"I was very frustrated," said Rizzo, who was 6 for 16 with two homers and five RBIs in the four games before he was 0 for 1 and was hit by a pitch Sunday.

"I'm going to move on from it."

The Cubs hope to do the same as they return to Wrigley, where they took three of five from the Brewers and New York Yankees from May 16-21 for their first winning record on a homestand.

Rizzo is 0 for 9 with five strikeouts and six walks in the last three home games, and batting .179 (5 for 28) in his last eight at Wrigley. He's batted .300 (6 for 20) with a home run and three doubles in five home games versus New York (28-29).

Chicago's Jake Arrieta (1-1, 3.20 ERA) yielded two runs and eight hits over 10 innings while going 1-0 in two starts before giving up four and seven hits in six innings of a 4-0 loss at San Francisco last Tuesday.

In the right-hander's lone appearance versus New York, he gave up a grand slam to ex-Met Ike Davis in seven innings of a 5-0 loss while with Baltimore in 2012.

New York took four of five in Philadelphia with Monday's 11-2 victory, its third win in a row and sixth in seven games. Shortstop Wilmer Flores hit a grand slam and drove in six runs.

''I just want to prove to them that I can do the job,'' said Flores, who was batting .222 with no extra-base hits in his first 14 games of the season prior to Monday. ''I know I'm good and I can do this.''

With two hits and two RBIs, David Wright is batting .329 with eight RBIs over his last 16 road games. He's 0 for 3 with a strikeout versus Arrieta.

New York's Zack Wheeler (2-5, 4.31) allowed a home run and three other hits in 6 1-3 innings of a 4-1 victory over Philadelphia on Thursday for his first win in eight starts since beating Arizona on April 14. He's allowed three earned runs in 13 innings of his last two starts after giving up 10 over 10 1-3 innings of the previous two.

"You're going to see nights like that out of him," manager Terry Collins told the Mets' official website. "He certainly has that ability, as we've seen in the past."

The right-hander is making his first appearance against the Cubs.
