The 2016 non-waiver trade deadline falls on August 1 this year, meaning it's about a week away now. We've already seen a handful of trades go down in recent weeks, most notably involving Aroldis Chapman, James Shields and Drew Pomeranz, and you can be sure many more moves are on the way.

To help you keep track of all the rumors and rumblings, we'll log the day's buzz right here, so make sure you check back often for the latest updates. Here's a look at Sunday's trade chatter.

Jays the favorites to land Upton Jr.?

Update: 10:55 p.m. ET

Outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. has been a healthy scratch for the Padres over the last couple of days, as A.J. Preller works through potential deals with a few different teams. We now know those teams' identities. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Blue Jays are currently the team most likely to add Upton Jr.. Rosenthal adds that the Orioles and Indians are still involved in the talks, however. You figure something's going to get done here pretty soon, lest the Padres continue to play a man short.

Nats best fit for Andrew Miller?

Update: 7:55 p.m. ET

With Aroldis Chapman off the market, everyone -- from the Yankees to the teams who failed to net Chapman -- can shift their attention to Andrew Miller, the other good New York-based left-handed reliever. Naturally, we're starting to see reports connecting teams to Miller. Buster Olney went ahead and added the Nationals to the list, noting the Nats were deep into talks to acquire Chapman. Unlike Chapman, a free-agent-to-be, Miller's contract runs through the 2018 season -- a tidbit that would likely make it easier for a team like the Nationals to sacrifice the prospect haul a trade would require. Of course, for those same reasons, teams other than the Nats will be involved. We'll see if the Yankees find an offer to their liking.

BoSox not done?

Update: 5:25 p.m. ET

Dave Dombrowski and the Red Sox have hardly been quiet leading up to the deadline, as in recent days and weeks they've added to the fold names like Drew Pomeranz, Aaron Hill, and Brad Ziegler. But they may not be done. Jayson Stark hears from one rival exec that the Sox still hope to do "something big" before the clock runs out on Aug. 1. Maybe that means another starting pitcher, a better option in left field, catching help, or another reliever. Sox fans, feel free to take the "something big" part and commence your Chris Sale waking dreams.

Santiago on the block?

Update: 5:12 p.m. ET

The Angels aren't going anywhere this season, so they're likely looking to flip some near-term assets before Aug. 1. As Jerry Crasnick tweets, lefty starter Hector Santiago is one of those assets. Santiago, 28, has a 93 ERA+ in 110 1/3 innings this season but a 108 ERA+ for his career. He's under team control for one more season before being eligible for free agency. It's a heated market for starting pitching right now, so the Angels should be able to find a taker.

Marlins targeting Miley?

Update: 5:04 p.m. ET

The Marlins are of course deep in the market for starting pitching as the deadline approaches, and they're likely among the frontrunners for Jeremy Hellickson of the Phillies. However, Clark Spencer tweets that Wade Miley of the Mariners is another potential trade target for Miami. Miley this season has a 5.23 ERA, so he's hardly sparkled in his first season in Seattle. That said, perhaps a shift to the non-DH league would be of help. The 29-year-old is under contract through next season with a club option for 2018.

Royals shopping Volquez?

Update: 2:00 p.m. ET

The Royals are still within range of playoff position, but they enter Monday's slate one game below the .500 mark. So will the reigning champs be deadline sellers? Here's this ...

This season, Volquez has been a disappointment for KC: 4.56 ERA and 2.00 K/BB ratio after 21 starts. On the upside, though, he's looked much better since enduring one of the worst starts of his career on June 24. Starting pitching is always in demand at the deadline, and if the Royals can get a reasonable return for Volquez, then perhaps they should table their designs on contention until 2017.

Royals asking a lot for Davis

Update: 1:57 p.m. ET

As you'll see below, the price is high for closers leading up to the non-waiver deadline. As further evidence, consider this Jeff Passan report, in which a source tells him that the Royals asked the Nationals for top pitching prospect Lucas Giolito in exchange for decorated relief ace Wade Davis.

Davis is a special closer, to be sure, but he's got declining peripherals as well as a recent history of arm problems. It's not certain the late-inning certainty he provides is worth perhaps the top pitching prospect in the game. If nothing else, though, it's another sign that the Royals are looking to sell.

Yanks shopping Nova?

Update: 1:54 p.m. ET

The Yankees are looking to trade right-hander Ivan Nova, according to Buster Olney. Nova's shown some promise in the past, but this season the 29-year-old has pitched to a 4.65 ERA and 92 ERA+ in 20 games, six of which have been relief appearances. While he hasn't pitched at a high level since 2013, before he underwent Tommy John surgery, he has shown good K/BB numbers this season. He's owed the balance of a $4.1 million salary for 2016 and is eligible for free agency this offseason.

Chapman trade reportedly done

Update: 1:25 p.m. ET

The five-player deal that sent closer Aroldis Chapman from the Yankees to the Cubs is reportedly done. Get the details here.
