Andrew Lambo is battling cancer. USATSI

The Athletics on Tuesday announced that minor-league outfielder Andrew Lambo is presently being treated for testicular cancer at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, where the A's Triple-A affiliate is located.

Via Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, here's the team's statement:

Lambo, who turns 28 in August, this season is batting .255/.321/.384 in 56 games for Nashville this season. In his career, he's played 60 games at the major-league level, including one for the A's this season. This past offseason, the A's claimed Lambo off waivers from the Pirates.

Our best wishes go out to Lambo for a swift and full recovery.
