The Indians have placed shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera on the bereavement list, retroactive to Monday, due to a death in his immediate family. Cabrera has returned to his native Venezuela in light of the death.

Players' stints on the bereavement list are a minimum of three days and maximum of seven days.

As a corresponding move, the Indians have recalled left-handed relief pitcher Nick Hagadone.

Jason Donald and Jose Lopez are the candidates to get at-bats while Cabrera tends to his family matter.

The Indians begin a west-coast road trip Tuesday night in Seattle.
