As expected, Athletics starter Bartolo Colon will start Saturday for the A's, as his 50-game suspension -- carried over from last season -- will have concluded. Dan Straily will start Friday for Oakland before losing his spot in the rotation to Colon (CSN Bay Area).
Colon, 39, was 10-9 with a 3.43 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 91 strikeouts in 152 1/3 innings for the A's last season before his suspension. Then, on Aug. 22, news broke that Colon had been suspended 50 games after testing for heightened testosterone levels. Five games of the suspension carried over into this season, but he's cleared to go come Saturday.
Straily, 24, had a huge season in the minors last year and ended up getting seven big-league starts, going 2-1 with a 3.89 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 32 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings. He has options left, so expect him to serve as the A's sixth starter throughout the season, getting starts in the minors and being brought up to the bigs when needed to fill in for injured starters.
Once Colon rejoins the fray, the A's rotation will be Brett Anderson, Jarrod Parker, Tommy Milone, A.J. Griffin and Colon.
