The Braves are pursuing free-agent outfielder Cody Ross, CBSSports.com insider Danny Knobler confirmed Tuesday. The interest was initially reported by Jon Morosi of FoxSports.com.

Ross, 31, hit .267/.326/.481 (113 OPS+) with the Red Sox last season, notching 22 home runs and 34 doubles in 528 plate appearances. Ross is reportedly asking for a three-year, $25 million contract, but like with most player contract demands, he will likely wind up with something a bit smaller in either years or average annual value.

If the Braves sign Ross, he would likely become the starting left fielder with Martin Prado shifting to third base in the wake of Chipper Jones' retirement. Although Ross has heavy platoon splits -- he has a career .928 OPS against lefties compared to just a .727 mark against righties -- the Braves would have the option of playing lefty Juan Francisco at third base and Prado in left field against right-handed pitchers.
