Brett Gardner

Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner has suffered a setback in his recovery from an elbow injury. He re-strained his muscle and won't even pick up a bat for another 10 days, manager Joe Girardi told reporters (including CBSSports.com's Danny Knobler) after Thursday night's game.

Girardi would only say that Gardner is out for "a while."

Needless to say, this is not good news for the Yanks. On the season, Gardner boasts a .424 OBP and has, of course, provided stellar glove work. As well, in the three-weeks-plus that Gardner has been sidelined, Raul Ibanez has been seeing regular time in the outfield, which is bad for both the team's fortunes and the observer's sense of aesthetics.
