The Brewers targeted starting pitcher Ryan Dempster in free agency, but the veteran signed with the Red Sox. Having lost out on Dempster, the Brewers might not pursue other free agents to add to the rotation, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.

McCalvy quotes Brewers general manager Doug Melvin as saying, "Beyond [Dempster], I don’t see the next level of starters that we’re going to get involved with."

That could lead to Marco Estrada, Mike Fiers, Chris Narveson, Mark Rogers, Wily Peralta, Tyler Thornburg and Hiram Burgos competing for the four rotation spots behind staff ace Yovani Gallardo should the Brewers not acquire another starting pitcher.
