The Brewers have signed left-handed reliever Mike Gonzalez to a one-year contract worth $2.25 million, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reported Friday. CBSSports.com's Scott Miller confirmed the signing.

Gonzalez, 34, recorded a 3.03 ERA in 47 games (35 2/3 innings) with the Nationals in 2012. He struck out 39 batters against 16 walks with just two home runs allowed.

Although Gonzalez is a former closer, at this point in his career he appears better suited to a left-handed specialist role. Gonzalez allowed a .297/.378/.484 line to right-handed batters against just a .179/.257/.269 mark aginst lefties.
