The Cubs have acquired catcher Anthony Recker from the Athletics, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reported Monday.

Recker has struggled in his short major league career, owning a .146/.281/.188 line in 18 games, 17 of which have came as catcher. The 28-year-old has hit well at Triple-A, with a .276/.358/.474 line in 309 games, but has been old for the level for some time now.

Catcher Blake Lalli heads back to Oakland in the deal. Lalli appeared in six games for the Cubs this year with a .321 OPS. Lalli, 29, has hit .259/.293/.395 for Triple-A Iowa this season. The Cubs designated pitcher Scott Maine for assignment to make room on the roster for Recker.
