Derek Jeter fractures ankle, is out three months

Yankees shortstop and postseason legend Derek Jeter is done for the postseason. Following a 12-inning injury in which Jeter had to be carried off the field, the Yankees have announced that Jeter has fractured his ankle and is out for three months.

Yankees shortstop and postseason legend Derek Jeter is done for the postseason. Following a 12th-inning injury in which Jeter had to be carried off the field, the Yankees have announced that Jeter has fractured his ankle and is out for three months.

Jeter was 1-for-5 in the game and sporting a .333 postseason batting average when he fielded a ground ball in the top of the 12th inning. As he moved toward second base, Jeter crumbled to the ground in obvious pain. He was immediately removed from the game and helped off the field while putting no weight on his injured leg.

The next move for the Yankees is pretty obvious. Eduardo Nunez was left off the ALCS roster, but he can be added as the Yankees remove Jeter. Manager Joe Girardi announced after the game that this would in fact be the move. Either Nunez or Jayson Nix will play shortstop for the Yankees the rest of the way in the postseason.

Jeter, 38, hit .316/.362/.429 with 15 homers, 32 doubles and 99 runs scored in the regular season. He hit .364 with a double and a triple in the Yankees' five-game ALDS victory over the Orioles.
