The Diamondbacks declined two options Wednesday, the club announced via Twitter:
- The club declined reliever Matt Lindstrom's $4-million option for 2013 and will instead pay a $200,000 buyout. Lindstrom was acquired from the Orioles for Joe Saunders as a post-waiver deal in August. The decline is slightly surprising from Arizona, as Lindstrom has been very successful the past two years between the Rockies, Orioles and Diamondbacks, posting a 2.85 ERA (155 ERA+) in 101 innings. The Diamondbacks still have exclusive negotiating rights until Friday (five days after the World Series) and may be working on a multi-year or otherwise restructured contract.
- The club also declined their half of catcher Henry Blanco's $1.24-million option for 2013, with no buyout attached. Blanco, 40, struggled in what could be his last season as a major leaguer last year, managing just a .505 OPS in 21 games as Miguel Montero's backup.
