The Giants have signed outfielder Andres Torres to a one-year deal, according to CBSSports.com’s Jon Heyman. Torres will make $2 million. Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area initially reported Torres’ return to San Francisco.
The 34-year-old Torres returns to the Giants after he was traded to the Mets for outfielder Angel Pagan. In 434 plate appearances, Torres hit .230/.327/.337 with the Mets last year.
Torres was a breakout player in 2010, hitting .268/.343/.479 in 570 plate appearances with the Giants. While he has maintained a strong walk rate, Torres has never been able to replicate the power he showed that season. Torres will likely split time with Gregor Blanco in left field next season, according to Heyman.
