Johnny Damon

Johnny Damon can earn up to $2.65 million with the Indians this season, CBSSports.com Insider Jon Heyman reports.

According to Heyman, Damon's deal with Cleveland is for $1.25 million, but he can make another $1.4 million in performance bonuses.

The 38-year-old Damon hit .261/.326/.418 with 16 home runs and 73 RBI last season with the Rays. He'll likely platoon in left field with Shelley Duncan.

On Wednesday, Damon texted Heyman that he thought he could be ready for the season in three days, but expects the Indians to want him to work out at least a week before joining the team.

Cleveland is Damon's fourth team in four years, and his seventh overall. He is a career .286/.353/.435 hitter and is 277 hits from 3,000 for his career.

The Indians are 1-4 this season and hitting just .178, the lowest average in the majors heading into Thursday's games.
