The injuries continue to mount for the blighted Blue Jays. This time, it's catcher J.P. Arencibia, who will miss at least the next six weeks after fracturing his right hand, reports the AP. Arencibia sustained the injury when he was struck by a foul tip against the A's on Wednesday night.
The injury comes just as Arencibia was enjoying his first sustained hot streak of the season. He entered Wednesday night's contest having homered in three straight games and having lifted his OPS by more than 50 points in less than two weeks. On the season, he's hitting .242/.279/.466 with 16 home runs in 299 plate appearances.
Once a roster move is made, Arencibia will become the 11th Blue Jay presently on the disabled list. Of those 11 players, nine are pitchers.
Catching prospect Travis d'Arnaud, the Jays' top minor-leaguer, is presently nursing a knee injury and won't join the big-league club before the rosters expand in September.
