Joey Votto is feeling better but remains out of the Reds' lineup Monday with a knee injury, John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.

Votto said he would be "surprised" if the knee injury he suffered Saturday against the Giants would send him to the disabled list. Dusty Baker was a bit more reserved, telling Fay it's "way too early" to discuss the notion.

Votto is enjoying an MVP-caliber season so far, hitting .350/.471/.632 with 14 home runs and 47 RBI in 77 games. For now, Miguel Cairo takes Votto's spot at first base, a huge step down for the NL Central leaders.
