With Raul Valdes headed to the disabled list with a hip strain, the Phillies recalled left-hander Joe Savery on Friday, Ryan Lawrence of the Delaware County Times reported.

Valdes had a 3.80 ERA on the season and a tremendous 6.0 K/BB rate before the injury. Savery has thrown 23 innings over 17 appearances with Philadelphia so far this year with a 5.87 ERA. He has 15 strikeouts against seven walks and four home runs on the season. He has had similar issues with the home run ball at Triple-A, where he has a 4.09 ERA in 11 innings this season.
