Phillies SP Aaron Harang unable to hang on to lead Thursday

Phillies starter Aaron Harang was given a five-run lead, but wasn't able to make it last Thursday against the Mets. The veteran right hander wound up allowing five runs on nine hits over six innings. He walked three and did not record a strike out.

The Phillies scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning to grab a 5-0 lead. But Harang sturggled to keep the ball in the park. He gave up a two-run home run to Travis d'Arnaud in the fourth inning. Then he allowed another two-run shot to Yoenis Cespedes and a solo homer to Kelly Johnson to tie the game in the fifth. The Mets went on to win the game 9-5 in 13 innings.

Harang was coming off one of his best starts of the season his last time out when he allowed two runs over seven innings against the Marlins. Still, he ends August going 0-3 with an unsightly 8.04 ERA in five starts.
