It's easy to say such gestures don't make a tangible difference, and they don't if you're confining the discussion to things you can see, touch, measure. But in this era of interconnectedness, when images and sentiments can make their way from one point on the earth to another far-flung point in less than an instant, these kinds of things matter on a human level, at least a little. So good for Mississippi State and all the others who have undertaken these small symbols of solidarity and uplift.
Definitely worth noting: Mississippi State is selling these tribute hats and donating all proceeds to One Fund Boston.
