The Rangers' search for a starting pitcher may intensify as right-hander Colby Lewis will have surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon, the team announced on Monday.

Lewis, 32, was placed on the disabled list on Monday after making just one start following another DL stint. The team called the injury right forearm tendinitis, but that is often a sign of elbow problems. Texas called up left-hander Martin Perez to take his place in the rotation.

Drew Davidson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram notes Roy Oswalt had an injection for his back and is optimistic he can make his next start.
