The Astros have activated Jason Castro from the disabled list and optioned Carlos Corporan to Triple-A Oklahoma City, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reported Sunday.
Castro suffered a knee injury July 8 that forced him to the 15-day disabled list. Prior to the injury, he was hitting .254/.330/.379, easily besting his .205/.286/.287 marks from 2010, his only other season as a major leaguer. Castro has lost some of his prospect sheen since missing all of 2011 to an injury to the same knee -- he was Baseball America's 41st-best prospect before the 2010 season.
Corporan, 28, has spent most of his 10 professional seasons in the minors, accumulating 883 plate appearances in 243 games at the Triple-A level. He hit a respectable .275/.321/.471 in 18 games as Castro's replacement.
