Nationals pitcher Sean Burnett will be shut down until this weekend, according to the Washington Times’ Amanda Comak.

Burnett is dealing with a sore left elbow and is hoping new anti-inflammatory medication will take care of the problem. The team will not send Burnett for an MRI at this time. If he still has pain in his elbow this weekend, the team will consider other options.

Burnett, 29, has been exceptional for the Nationals this season. In 50 2/3 innings, Burnett has a 2.49 ERA and a 2.87 FIP. Burnett claims to have been dealing with the injury since the All-Star break, but has still managed to pitch effectively.
