When Pirates right-hander Kevin Correia was recently shifted to the bullpen in order to make room in the rotation for the newly acquired Wandy Rodriguez, he was coming off a stretch of four straight starts in which he hadn't given up more than three runs.
In that sense, Correia's frustration at the change in role is understandable. And frustrated he is, as Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review quotes Correia as saying he'd like to be traded out of Pittsburgh. "I want to start," Correia said. "For that to happen, I’ll have to go someplace else."
Since the Pirates are squarely in contention mode, it's doubtful they'd be eager to part with pitching depth, but Correia clearly isn't happy at the moment.
On the season, Correia has a 4.49 ERA in 110.1 innings pitched. On Sunday, he made his first relief appearance of 2012.
