Guthrie suffered a sprained right shoulder after a bicycle accident on Friday. Guthrie was riding his bike to Coors Field when the chain broke and he fell to the ground, jamming his shoulder. An MRI showed no structural damage.
"It was kind of a freak accident. Most of the contact was on my elbow and it kind of jammed my shoulder," Guthrie told reporters, including Troy Renck of the Denver Post. "I just have some pain, and when that goes away. I would assume yes, I will be healthy in 15 days. It wasn't like the wheel slipped out. I was just riding and the next thing I know, I was on the ground."
Guthrie said he always wears a helmet and often bikes to the park.
Guillermo Moscoso will be called up to take Guthrie's place on the roster and will start in his place Saturday night against the Mets.
Moscoso was 1-3 with a 7.91 for Triple-A Colorado Springs in four starts. The 28-year-old right-hander was 8-10 with a 3.38 ERA for the A's last season.
