The Yankees have re-upped with shortstop and team captain Derek Jeter on a one-year, $12-million contract for 2014. The Yankees held an option on Jeter for the 2014 season, but this agreement replaces it.

Jeter, 39, is coming off a 2013 season that was severely limited by injury, as he batted .190/.288/.254 in just 17 games. In 2012, though, he paced the majors with 216 hits and finished seventh in the AL MVP balloting.

Of course, this is more about Jeter's superlative body of work. His 3,316 career hits rank 10th on the all-time list, and he's 13th all-time in runs scored. As well, Jeter and Willie Mays are the only two players in MLB history to total at least 3,000 hits, 250 home runs, 300 stolen bases and 1,200 RBI.
