  • Domonic Brown: Playing days likely over

Brown recently told Matt Gelb of The Athletic that he's "ready to call it quits" and about "90 percent" sure that he'll retire from professional baseball.

Once one of baseball's top prospects and an All-Star for the Phillies in 2013, when he slugged 27 home runs, Brown's time in the majors came to an end only two years later. Between 2014 and 2015, Brown slashed just .233/.285/.349 (76 wRC+) with 15 long balls in 716 plate appearances, prompting the Phillies to outright him off the 40-man roster prior to the 2016 season. He stuck around in affiliated ball the following two years before spending the most recent two seasons in the Mexican League. Brown told Gelb that he plans to begin a coaching career as he moves on from his playing days.

  • Rockies' Domonic Brown: Signs minor league contract with Rockies

Brown agreed to a minor league deal with the Rockies on Tuesday, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports.

The 29-year-old has fallen off quite a bit since being named an All-Star in 2013 with the Phillies, a season where he slashed .272/.324/.494 in 540 plate appearances. He spent all of last year in Triple-A Buffalo, slashing just .239/.303/.336 in 509 plate appearances. The Rockies are taking a flyer here, but it seems likely that he'll end up back in Triple-A.

  • Domonic Brown: Elects free agency

Brown has elected free agency, SB Nation's Chris Cotillo reports.

With Brown coming off a miserable 2015 season and arbitration-eligible again this winter, the Phillies just decided to cut bait, outrighting the 28-year-old last week. Brown has refused the assignment and will hit the open market, but he is not guaranteed to receive a major-league offer despite being just two seasons removed from a 27-homer campaign.
