Dominguez agreed to a one-year deal with the Chiba Lotte Marines of the NPB, Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors reports.
The 28-year-old third baseman spent 2017 with the Red Sox's Triple-A affiliate, hitting .264/.295/.425 with 16 home runs in 451 plate appearances. It's possible he will return stateside after this one-year deal is up.

Red Sox's Matt Dominguez: Inks minor league deal with Red Sox
Dominguez signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox on Tuesday that includes an invitation to spring training, KSTP's Darren Wolfson reports.
Boston continues to bring aboard inexpensive fall-back options at third base in case Pablo Sandoval is not up to the task, as Red Sox already selected Josh Rutledge in the Rule 5 draft last week. Dominguez posted a .269/.315/.421 slash line with 18 home runs in 127 games at Triple-A in the Blue Jays' system last season. He has a career .231/.273/.371 line in 1,369 MLB plate appearances.

Dominguez failed to record a hit in four at bats since last being recalled from Triple-A Buffalo after being called upon to serve as temporary relief with Josh Donaldson nursing a thumb injury. The 26-year-old is slashing a solid .287/.333/.419 in the minors this season and could see another stint in the majors if the parent club finds themselves in need of infield depth.

Dominguez was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo and will start at third base and hit eighth in the lineup Sunday against the Red Sox, Barry Davis of Sportsnet reports.
Everyday third baseman Josh Donaldson will be limited to DH duties Sunday, so the Blue Jays brought Dominguez aboard to provide some more depth at the hot corner. It could still be a few more days before Donaldson is cleared to resume fielding, so Dominguez may be in position to make multiple starts during his time with the Jays. The 26-year-old was slashing .287/.333/.419 with five homers across 167 at-bats at Triple-A.

The Blue Jays optioned Dominguez to Triple-A Buffalo following Tuesday's game, Brendan Kennedy of the Toronto Star reports.
Dominguez's removal from the roster leaves the Blue Jays with just three bench players, but he received just one at-bat over the last five games, so the team decided it would be better off adding another reliever in his place. Dominguez could be an option for the big club later this season, but he would likely need a Josh Donaldson injury to have a shot at any sort of regular role.

Blue Jays' Matt Dominguez: Gets chance to fill void at first base
Dominguez, who has been a third baseman his whole career, got his first start at first base on Wednesday against the White Sox, the Toronto Sun reports.
Now that Chris Colabello is out of the Blue Jays' picture for at least 80 games, and possibly much longer than that, the landscape around first base has changed quite dramatically. Justin Smoak and Edwin Encarnacion were the obvious candidate to fill the void, but Smoak has struggled early in the season, and Edcarnacion is much better offensively when he is the DH. In his first two games with the team, the 26-year-old Dominguez is 0-for-6 with a walk and two strikeouts.

Dominguez got off to a strong start for Buffalo, posting a .311 batting average and six extra-base hits (two homers) in 61 at-bats. He may receive occasional starts at third base or designated hitter, but so long as Josh Donaldson is healthy, Dominguez doesn't figure to get much playing time.

If he gets the call to the big leagues, he'll likely act as a reserve third baseman and designated hitter, which will make playing time hard to come by with Josh Donaldson and Edwin Encarnacion blocking his path.
