Carlos Lee accepts a trade to the Marlins, and other news and notes from Wednesday.

  • Carlos Lee was dealt to the Marlins for third baseman Matt Dominguez and pitcher Rob Rassmussen. ESPN's Keith Law describes Dominguez as a future defensive replacement, and Rassmussen as a reliever.
  • Marco Scutaro could be a fit for the Tigers, writes ESPN's Jim Bowden. Bowden says the return for Scutaro would likely be minimal, as there isn't much of a market for second basemen among contending teams.
  • The Angels could be in the market for a starter if Dan Haren's injury is serious, according to the Los Angeles Times' Kevin Baxter. Since Haren and Ervin Santana are slated to be free agents at the end of the season, Baxter mentions Houston's Wandy Rodriguez as someone the Angels might target. Rodriguez is signed through the 2013 season.
  • Andre Ethier was placed on the DL with a strained lat. The move is retroactive to June 28, meaning Ethier would be eligible to return to the Dodgers shortly after the All-Star break.
  • Dee Gordon was removed from Wednesday night's game after dislocating his thumb while sliding into third. Gordon will have an MRI on Thursday, which will determine how much time he misses.
  • Ryan Dempster wants to return from the disabled list on Sunday. The Cubs pitcher said his rehab has gone well, and he doesn't think he'll need to pitch in a simulated game before returning to the team. Manager Dale Sveum said the team will evaluate Dempster and make a decision Friday.
