    Romero was released from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday, Shane Hennigan of the Scranton Times-Tribune reports.

    After opening the season on the Triple-A squad's DL with an injury, Romero slashed just .132/.242/.226 in 53 at-bats. He'll be dropped from the roster to make room for pitcher Brady Lail.

    Romero spent 2015 with the Doosan Bears of the Korean Baseball Organization. In 76 games, the 29-year-old had a .777 OPS with 12 home runs and 50 RBI. With the recent development of Greg Bird's shoulder surgery, Romero could compete for the backup first base job in spring training, but it's also likely that he'll just act as organizational depth at the corner infield positions.
