Cubs' Efren Navarro: Dumped from 40-man roster
Navarro was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Saturday, Bruce Miles of the Chicago Daily Herald reports.
He was removed from the 40-man roster in favor of catcher Chris Gimenez. Navarro continues to display a strong handle on the strike zone, but he's 32 years old now and the power has always been modest for a player who is limited defensively to first base or the outfield corners. He will now be subjected to waivers.

Navarro was called up to help fill in at first base while Anthony Rizzo was sidelined. With Rizzo returning, Navarro was simply a roster redundancy. The 31-year-old will return to the minors to act as organizational depth.

Navarro was called up Tuesday to replace the injured Anthony Rizzo (back) on the active roster.
There haven't been any indications that Rizzo's injury is serious, and he's eligible to return April 16, so Navarro's stay with the Cubs is likely to be short. The 2007 50th-round pick has a .243/.306/.334 slash line with three home runs in 349 career plate appearances. His fantasy value will likely be minimal even if he plays frequently, which seems unlikely, as the Cubs can also play Victor Caratini and Ben Zobrist at first base.

Cubs' Efren Navarro: Signs minor-league deal with Cubs
Navarro agreed to a minor-league contract with the Cubs on Sunday, Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Navarro played 23 games for the Tigers last season, over which he hit .230 with a .696 OPS. With Anthony Rizzo locked in at first base, Navarro will likely provide only organizational depth. While Navarro also has experience playing outfield, the Cubs already have plenty of options in left field, center field and right field, making Navarro unlikely to offer much fantasy value next season.

Navarro signed a minor league contract with the Tigers on Saturday, Rich Dubroff of PressBoxOnline reports.
The veteran first baseman last played in the major leagues in 2015 as a member of the Angels in 2015. He spent time with the Mariners and the Cardinals with their respective Triple-A affiliates last season and had a particularly strong stint at Triple-A Memphis, where he slashed .320/.366/.376 over 213 plate appearances. He figures to see regular playing time at Triple-A Toledo in 2017.

Navarro signed a minor league deal with Seattle on Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of the OC Register reports.
The 29-year-old was DFA'd by the Orioles last week and officially cleared waivers over the weekend. After appearing in 54 games for the Angels last season, Navarro is likely destined to begin the year in Triple-A, a level at which he found success within the Angels organization in 2015, hitting .329 with 29 RBI in 72 games.

There isn't a very large market for 29-year-old first basemen with a .627 career OPS, so Navarro is going to have to find a team willing to be patient with him, then develop his bat into something a major league team can use. It's much morel likely he spends the next few years moving between Triple-A teams as organizational filler.

Navarro was designated for assignment Wednesday by the Orioles, MASN Sports reports.
Navarro was acquired for cash considerations from the Angels in January, but the Orioles needed to make room on the roster for Yovani Gallardo, whom the Orioles signed Wednesday. The 29-year-old Navarro does not figure to attract much attention on the market and may look for a minor league deal with a team that does not have much organizational depth at first base, or he could elect to remain in with the Orioles if he goes unclaimed. Navarro has seen limited MLB action, hitting .246/.303/.324 in 280 plate appearances since 2011.

Navarro was traded to the Orioles on Tuesday in exchange for cash considerations.
Navarro split time between Triple-A and the majors last season with the Angels, slashing .329/.380/.442 in the minors while hitting just .253/.295/.301 with the big league team. He'll likely be given the chance to make the big league roster out of spring training, but first base seems to be accounted for in Baltimore with Chris Davis and Mark Trumbo.
