R.A. Dickey: Has option declined for 2018
The Braves declined their 2018 team option on Dickey on Monday.
During his age-42 season, Dickey threw for a 4.46 ERA and 1.37 WHIP over 31 starts. In that time he posted a 136:67 K:BB and gave up home runs at a clip of 1.2 HR/9. While his fantasy value is marginal at this point in his career, Dickey could still be a serviceable arm for a major-league club, as he's appeared in at least 30 games each year since the 2010 campaign.

Braves' R.A. Dickey: Won't start Sunday
Dickey won't make another start before the end of the season, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Dickey was given the option to start Sunday's season finale if he wanted, but the veteran knuckleballer ultimately deferred. It appears he's content ending his season -- and possibly career -- after turning in a solid performance against the Mets his last time out. He'll finish the season 10-10 with a 4.26 ERA in 190 innings (31 starts).

Braves' R.A. Dickey: Final start could come Sunday
Dickey will start Sunday in Miami if he so chooses, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
It could be that the veteran knuckleballer is content riding off into the sunset, but manager Brian Snitker said Dickey would start if he wants the ball. Otherwise rookie Max Fried will get the start. The situation should become clear in the coming days. Dickey has a 6.21 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 16 strikeouts in 29 innings this month.

Braves' R.A. Dickey: Loses shutout in seventh
Dickey tossed 6.2 innings against the Mets on Tuesday, striking out four without a walk while allowing two runs on five hits. He didn't factor into the decision.
The knuckleballing veteran actually left with a lead despite losing his shutout in the seventh inning when he gave up a two-run homer to Kevin Plawecki, but the bullpen blew the game over the following two innings. This outing at Citi Field may have had special meaning for Dickey, who resurrected his career with the Mets, putting together a trio of star-caliber seasons from 2011-2013. It would be a solid end to his career if it were his last career outing, but Dickey is in fact lined up to make one more start Sunday in Miami.

Braves' R.A. Dickey: Hints at retirement
Dickey suggested Thursday that he may retire after this season, the Associated Press reports.
He was emotional about his outing Thursday, saying "it could be my last start ever at a home venue." Dickey, who turns 43 next month, went on to add that he feels he still has something in the tank, but he will discuss things with his family before making any decisions regarding his playing career. The knuckleballer has endured some tough starts lately, but Dickey was quite good from mid-June to late-August (2.58 ERA, 1.24 WHIP over 13 starts) and the Braves would probably welcome him back next year if he decides to return.

Braves' R.A. Dickey: Evens record with strong outing against Nats
Dickey (10-10) allowed two runs on four hits while striking out four batters through eight innings to take the win over Washington on Thursday.
The knuckleballer had posted a 10.05 ERA through his previous three starts, so this was a surprising bounce-back showing against a strong opponent. At this stage of the fantasy game, and with Dickey's recent struggles in mind, he's best viewed as a flier for his final two road starts against the Mets and Marlins. He sports a mediocre 4.32 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 6.5 K/9 for the campaign, after all.

Braves' R.A. Dickey: September struggles continue
Dickey (9-10) took the loss after allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks in five innings Saturday against the Mets.
Dickey continues to struggle mightily in September after impressing in July and August, in which he compiled a healthy 2.97 ERA through 11 starts. Saturday marked the first outing all season Dickey failed to record a strikeout, and he now owns a brutal 10.02 ERA and 2.09 WHIP through three starts this month. While he's proven to be a viable fantasy option over portions of the season, the knuckleballer may be too volatile to trust as the fantasy season winds to a close. His next matchup comes against the Phillies on Friday.

Braves' R.A. Dickey: Allows five runs in no-decision Sunday
Dickey allowed five runs on six hits and three walks across five innings in a no-decision Sunday against the Marlins. He struck out five.
Dickey's poor outing stemmed largely from a pair of rough innings -- a three-run second frame in which he walked the bases loaded with nobody out and a two-run fifth that began with three straight hits. He threw 67 percent of his pitches for strikes but missed over the plate with regularity and stacked up baserunners. Dickey has slid into a poor run of form over his last five starts, allowing at least four earned runs in four of those to raise his ERA to 4.38. He will look to get back on track Saturday against the Mets.

Braves' R.A. Dickey: Slashed for seven runs by Rangers
Dickey (9-9) allowed seven runs -- six earned -- on eight hits and three walks with three strikeouts and lasted just 4.1 innings as he took the loss Monday to the Rangers.
Although one would think an aging knuckleballer like Dickey would be prone to these kinds of blowouts, this is actually the first time he's allowed more than six runs in an outing since June 13. Dickey posted a 2.58 ERA with 74 strikeouts over 83.2 innings in that stretch, reminiscent of some of his best days with the Mets. His overall season ERA sits at 4.14, but Dickey has shown he has something left in the tank in the second half this year.

Braves' R.A. Dickey: Dominates Phillies again
Dickey (9-8) was masterful in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader in Philadelphia, nabbing the win after allowing just one run on seven hits with one walk and nine strikeouts over eight innings.
Dickey benefited from the extra day of rest after his scheduled Tuesday start was rained out, holding Philadelphia without an extra-base hit while tying his season high in strikeouts. The only damage against him came thanks to a trio of singles in the seventh, but the game was well out of reach at that point with Atlanta holding a 9-0 lead. Dickey would be in contention for his second NL Cy Young award if he could just face the Phillies every time out, as the veteran knuckleballer is now 2-0 with a 0.81 ERA and 25:4 K:BB over 22 innings in three starts against them this season. He'll next face one of his many former teams when the Rangers come to town Monday.

Braves' R.A. Dickey: Start rained out Tuesday
Dickey had his scheduled start for Tuesday against the Phillies postponed due to rain, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
The Braves and Phillies will make up the contest Wednesday as part of a doubleheader, with Dickey set to start Game 1 of the twin bill, while Julio Teheran takes the hill for Game 2. While Dickey will still benefit from a matchup with one of the National League's weaker teams, he'll now miss out on a potential two-start week, as he no longer lines up for a second turn Sunday against the Cubs.

Braves' R.A. Dickey: Limits damage in Wednesday's no-decision
Dickey gave up four runs on 11 hits and two walks over six innings while striking out six in a no-decision against the Mariners on Wednesday.
Five of those 11 hits were doubles, including two by Robinson Cano, but the knuckleballer was able to keep the ball in the park and keep the Braves in the game until Jim Johnson fell apart in the eighth inning. Dickey's been generally solid since the All-Star break, delivering five quality starts in eight outings with a 3.70 ERA and 42:18 K:BB over 48.2 innings, and he'll look to get back in the win column Tuesday in Philadelphia.

Braves' R.A. Dickey: Roughed up by Reds on Friday
Dickey (8-8) took the loss against the Reds on Friday, allowing four runs on eight hits -- including three home runs -- and a walk over six innings while striking out nine.
The strikeouts were a season high and helped salvage the knuckleballer's performance from a fantasy perspective. Dickey's 3.98 ERA is outpacing his 5.06 FIP, but don't assume that's entirely a product of good luck, as the veteran has had an ERA lower than his FIP every season since 2009. He'll next take the mound Wednesday at home against the Mariners.

Braves' R.A. Dickey: Picks up road win
Dickey (8-7) allowed one run on seven hits across seven innings in a 6-3 win Sunday over the Cardinals. He struck out three and walked two.
That's back-to-back victories for the veteran knuckleballer, who's now lasted six or more innings in nine of his last 10 starts. Dickey is entrenched as the Braves' No. 3 starter behind Mike Foltynewicz and Julio Teheran, and with a 3.89 ERA and eight wins on the season, he makes for a serviceable fantasy option in medium to deeper formats.

Braves' R.A. Dickey: Start pushed to Sunday
Dickey's next start has been pushed to Sunday to give him extra rest, David O'Brien of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
He has been pretty excellent lately, firing a 2.22 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 47:19 K:BB in 56.2 innings, and the Braves will look to keep his quality outings coming by taking advantage of Thursday's off day to reshuffle the rotation. Dickey will still pitch in St. Louis, but will face Michael Wacha instead of Adam Wainwright.

Braves' R.A. Dickey: Delivers quality start in Friday's win
Dickey (7-7) gave up three runs on three hits and a walk over six innings while striking out three in Friday's 5-3 win over the Marlins.
If it weren't for Giancarlo Stanton, who accounted for all of Miami's offense with a pair of homers off Dickey, the knuckleballer might have had a shot at his first shutout since 2013. He's now reeled off eight quality starts in his last nine trips to the mound, and Dickey will try to keep things rolling next Friday on the road against the Cardinals.
