  • Jorge De La Rosa: Cut loose by Colorado

De La Rosa (oblique) was released by the Rockies on Friday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

De La Rosa agreed to a minor-league contract with the Rockies in April, but he failed to make a minor-league appearance prior to his release due to an oblique injury. The 38-year-old has been playing professional ball since the 2004 season and may consider hanging it up if he fails to draw interest while on the open market.

  • Rockies' Jorge De La Rosa: Recovering from oblique injury

De La Rosa has yet to debut in affiliated ball in 2019 while recovering from an oblique injury, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports.

Since he didn't put pen to paper on a minor-league deal with the Rockies until early April, De La Rosa missed all of spring training and was never assigned to an affiliate when the season began. He reported to extended spring training shortly after signing but soon developed the oblique problem, delaying his debut even further. As of last week, De La Rosa had resumed throwing bullpen sessions, so it shouldn't be long before he reports to a lower-level affiliate for a rehab assignment. Once deemed fully healthy, De La Rosa will likely be ticketed for a spot in the Triple-A Albuquerque bullpen.

  • Rockies' Jorge De La Rosa: Inks MiLB deal with Colorado

De La Rosa agreed to a minor-league contract with the Rockies on Friday, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports.

De La Rosa made 59 appearances during stops with the Cubs and Diamondbacks a season ago and posted a 3.38 ERA with 47 punchouts over 56 innings. He'll provide the Rockies with bullpen depth and should join Triple-A Albuquerque within the next few days.

  • Cubs' Jorge De La Rosa: Notches first career save

De La Rosa gave up a hit and a walk in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his first save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Reds.

It was actually the first save of the veteran left-hander's career, coming in his 426th career appearance. Even with Pedro Strop (hamstring) sidelined and Brandon Morrow (biceps) not yet ready to return to the bullpen, De La Rosa isn't likely to remain in the closing mix for the Cubs given his 3.63 ERA and 1.40 WHIP across 52 innings in 2018, but manager Joe Maddon has made stranger decisions.

  • Cubs' Jorge De La Rosa: Picks up first hold with Cubs

De La Rosa recorded two outs in Friday's 1-0 win over the Pirates to notch his seventh hold of the season and first in a Cubs uniform.

Brandon Kintzler started the eighth inning, and after a one-out single, manager Joe Maddon turned to De La Rosa to get left-handed pinch hitter Adam Frazier. De La Rosa was able to induce a double play to quickly get out of the inning. The 37-year-old lefty looks like he could be used primarily against same-handed hitters the rest of the way as a specialist out of the Chicago bullpen.

  • Cubs' Jorge De La Rosa: Strikes out three over two innings

De La Rosa allowed an earned run over two innings of relief in Tuesday's loss to the Brewers. He gave up four hits and struck out three.

De La Rosa has now pitched in two games for the Cubs, and he has seven strikeouts over 3.1 innings. The veteran lefty still has a mediocre 4.46 ERA this season, but if he can continue to miss bats at a decent rate, De La Rosa could carve out a niche in the Chicago bullpen as the second southpaw behind Justin Wilson, at least until Brian Duensing (shoulder) returns from the DL.

  • Cubs' Jorge De La Rosa: Agrees to deal with Cubs

De La Rosa signed a contract with the Cubs on Friday, Bruce Miles of the Daily Herald reports.

De La Rosa was released by the Diamondbacks last weekend after posting a 4.63 ERA and 1.60 WHIP across 35 innings with the club this season. He will immediately be available out of Chicago's bullpen for Friday's series opener versus the Nationals. In a corresponding move, the team shifted Yu Darvish (shoulder) over to the 60-day DL and optioned Randy Rosario to the minors.

  • Jorge De La Rosa: Cut loose by Arizona

The Diamondbacks released De La Rosa on Saturday.

After he went unclaimed off waivers over the weekend, De La Rosa likely had little interest in reporting to Triple-A Reno, so the Diamondbacks opted to cut him loose. The 37-year-old will now look to secure a contract from another organization that might have a need for an experienced left-handed reliever.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge De La Rosa: Designated for assignment

De La Rosa was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

De La Rosa was removed from the roster in order to make room for newly-acquired lefty reliever Jake Diekman. The 37-year-old struggled to a 4.63 ERA in 35 innings for Arizona, walking too many batters (12.0 percent) while striking out too few (17.1 percent).

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge De La Rosa: Blitzed in relief

De La Rosa was charged with seven runs on five hits and three walks over 1.2 innings of relief Wednesday in the Diamondbacks' 19-2 loss to the Rockies.

De La Rosa often thrived while pitching at high altitude during his nine seasons in Colorado, but that experience didn't prove beneficial Wednesday. After turning in scoreless appearances in nine of his previous 11 outings to lower his season ERA to 3.00, De La Rosa saw that mark jump all the way back to 4.83 by the time he exited his appearance. He needed a season-high 65 pitches just to record five outs, with that heavy workload likely to make him unavailable out of the bullpen for at least the Diamondbacks' next two games.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge De La Rosa: Works two scoreless frames

De La Rosa tossed two scoreless innings in relief Sunday in the Diamondbacks' 9-6 loss to the Giants. He gave up two walks and one hit and struck out a batter.

Since returning from a two-week stint on the disabled list in mid-June, De La Rosa has made five appearances out of the Arizona bullpen, most of which came in low-leverage spots. The lefty maintains a 3.04 ERA on the season, but with only 15 strikeouts and six holds in 26.2 innings, he's not a particularly fantasy-friendly middle reliever.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge De La Rosa: Returns from disabled list

De La Rosa (Achilles) was activated from the 10-day disabled list prior to Thursday's game against the Mets.

De La Rosa will slide back into the Diamondbacks' bullpen after missing a couple weeks with right Achilles tendon bursitis. Through 27 appearances this season, he's logged a 3.54 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with an 11:9 K:BB across 20.1 innings of relief. In a corresponding move, Silvino Bracho was sent down to Triple-A Reno.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge De La Rosa: Faces hitters in extended spring game

De La Rosa (Achilles) pitched in a game at extended spring training Monday, Justin Toscano of MLB.com reports.

De La Rosa is slated to face hitters again Tuesday. If all goes well during that outing, De La Rosa will likely be activated from the 10-day disabled list at some point later this week and reclaim a middle-relief role in the Arizona bullpen.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge De La Rosa: Completes bullpen session

De La Rosa (Achilles) threw a bullpen session at the Diamondbacks' extended spring training facility Wednesday, the Associated Press reports.

With De La Rosa resuming mound work less than a week after landing on the disabled list, it appears unlikely that he'll be in store for an extended absence. He's expected to face hitters at some point over the weekend and if that goes well, he could be cleared to return from the DL without requiring a minor-league rehab assignment.
