Craig Breslow: Joins Cubs' front office
Breslow joined the Cubs as the team's Director of Strategic Initiatives for Baseball Operations on Monday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
Reports earlier in the offseason suggested that Breslow was prepared to end his career for a front-office job, and the Yale product has done just that. The veteran southpaw pitched in parts of 12 major-league seasons for seven different teams, posting a 3.45 ERA in 570.2 innings.

Craig Breslow: Planning to end playing career
Breslow has been engaged in talks with a number of organizations this offseason in joining them in a non-playing role, signaling the end of his pitching career, Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston reports.
Breslow was unable to earn a promotion to the big leagues in 2018 after registering accruing a 5.40 ERA and 2.05 WHIP across 33 appearances at three affiliates in the Toronto organization. Now 38 years old, Breslow appears ready to transition to the next phase of his career, concluding a 12-year run in the majors that included stops with the Padres, Red Sox, Indians, Twins, Athletics, Diamondbacks and Marlins.

Craig Breslow: Will re-sign with Toronto
Breslow, who was released by the Blue Jays on Saturday, will re-sign with the team on a minor-league pact, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Breslow's release earlier in the day was merely a procedural move. It's unclear what the 37-year-old left-hander still has in the tank. His last good season came in 2013, when he was a key bullpen piece that helped carry the Red Sox to the World Series.

Breslow decided to opt out of his contract and pursue major-league opportunities elsewhere after being told he wouldn't break camp with the Blue Jays. The 37-year-old finished the 2017 campaign with a 5.09 ERA and 1.56 WHIP across 35.1 innings.

The 37-year-old signed a minor-league deal with Toronto in February but was always a long shot to make the team. He posted a 5.09 ERA in 35.1 innings last year and hasn't had an xFIP below 5.00 since 2013. The veteran lefty could sign a minor-league deal elsewhere or could decide to bring his 12-year major-league career to a close.

Breslow broke camp with the Twins last year after altering his mechanics in the offseason, and the 37-year-old even enjoyed some initial success (2.75 ERA through May) before his age caught up with him and the Twins cut him and his 5.23 ERA loose at the end of July. He latched on with the Indians shortly thereafter, but didn't fare much better and finished the season with a 5.09 ERA across 35.1 innings. Breslow will compete for a low-leverage bullpen role with the Blue Jays this spring, though he won't carry fantasy value even if he earns an Opening Day roster spot.

Indians' Craig Breslow: Called up Saturday
Breslow had his contract purchased from Triple-A Columbus on Saturday.
Breslow joined the Indians on a minor-league deal at the beginning of August, and the 37-year-old will get his first shot with the big club after getting his feet wet with Columbus, allowing two runs over 4.2 innings. He compiled a 5.52 ERA with an 18:12 K:BB across 31 innings with the Twins earlier in the season, so he'll likely be used in low-leverage situations out of the Indians' bullpen. To clear roster room for Breslow, Ryan Merritt was optioned to Triple-A while Diego Moreno was designated for assignment.

Indians' Craig Breslow: Signs on with Indians
Breslow signed a minor-league contract with the Indians on Friday, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.
The veteran reliever was released by the Twins on Sunday, but quickly latches on with Cleveland, the same organization he played for in 2008. Breslow left much to be desired over 30 appearances with Minnesota this season, posting a 5.23 ERA and an unappealing 18:12 K:BB, so he likely finds himself relegated to organizational depth for now. Expect the left-hander to join Triple-A Columbus within the coming days.

Craig Breslow: Cut loose by Minnesota
The Twins released Breslow on Sunday.
Breslow's release clears a spot on the Triple-A Rochester for prospect Dietrich Enns, who the Twins acquired in the trade that sent Jaime Garcia to the Yankees earlier Sunday. The lefty Breslow tinkered with his delivery in the offseason and was able to parlay those adjustments into a roster spot -- and some initial success -- with the Twins following spring training, but his production tanked before he missed most of July with an injury to his ribs. The Twins reinstated him from the disabled list a little less than two weeks ago, but designated him for assignment shortly thereafter. Breslow will now be free to explore opportunities with other organizations, but the 36-year-old will likely have to settle for a minor-league deal no matter where he lands.

Breslow (ribs) is going to make another rehab appearance with Triple-A Rochester before rejoining the Twins, Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press reports.
There was a chance that Breslow would be able to come back to the big leagues following the All-Star Game, but he will need another outing at the Triple-A level before heading to Minnesota. During his first appearance with Rochester on Sunday, Breslow allowed one earned run on one hit and one walk while striking out one in an inning of work. Breslow will likely pitch again this weekend, and if all goes well he should be able to rejoin the club for its series against the Yankees.

Breslow was placed on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday with rib-cage soreness, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Breslow was tagged for three runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks over an inning one day earlier, marking the fourth time in five appearance that he's been lit up for multiple runs. Prior to the rough patch, Breslow had carried a 2.57 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 21 innings, so the injury could explain some of his struggles. The Twins will replace Breslow in the bullpen with converted starter Phil Hughes (biceps), who was activated from the disabled list following a three-outing rehab assignment.

Breslow has an ERA of 4.82 in 28 innings for Minnesota this season .
The 2002 draft pick is with his third team in three years and has seen his ERA increase in each of those seasons. Now 36, it's tough to imagine the veteran will be improving his play anytime soon. He only has 5.5 K/9 and has yet to record a hold in 2017, severely limiting his fantasy potential this year to owners in all league types.
