Fans have wanted a piece of basketball legend Michael Jordan for decades now, ever since he first made a national name for himself at the University of North Carolina. Now, one lucky bidder could snag a piece of Jordan's ... wallet.
That's right, GoldinAuctions.com is auctioning off an expired American Express credit card that belonged to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer. The card includes his name "Michael J. Jordan" -- the J. stands for Jeffrey -- and bears Jordan's signature on the back. The site's auction notes that the card is "PSA/DNA Certified" with bids to open in October at a starting price of $1,000.
Based on the card's date information, Jordan owned it between 2003 and July 2005, when it expired, roughly a half-decade after the end of his Chicago Bulls heyday. During those years, Jordan was just beginning his post-NBA career, as his final season with the Washington Wizards was 2002-2003. He was fired as the Wizards' president in May 2003. Jordan didn't buy into the Charlotte Bobcats until June 2006.
If credit cards could talk, imagine what they would say. This one probably has many great stories of golfing, drinking and globetrotting. The memories aren't included in the auction, though; only the expired plastic rectangle.
