The Hawks will be without guard John Jenkins for the rest of the season after back surgery.

The team announced Monday that Jenkins underwent surgery on his lower back and with rest and rehabilitation, will miss the remainder of the season.

Jenkins hasn't played in a game since Dec. 20.

Taken 23rd overall in 2012, he had a promising rookie averaging 6.1 points in 61 games while shooting 38.4 percent from 3. Coming into this season, he was seen as a potential valuable piece to the Hawks depth.

The second-year guard appeared in only 13 games this season, averaging 3.1 points and 1.7 rebounds in 12.2 minutes.
