An already bad and disappointing season for the Milwaukee Bucks just got a little worse with the report from Shams Charania of The Vertical that guard O.J. Mayo will miss the rest of the season with a leg fracture. Mayo suffered the injury earlier this week and Charania is reporting that surgery is still a possibility with treating the injury.

From The Vertical:

Milwaukee Bucks guard O.J. Mayo has suffered a leg fracture and will miss the remainder of the season, league sources told The Vertical.

Mayo, 28, sustained the injury this week and surgery is a possibility, sources said.

The Bucks are already well out of the playoff race, having dealt with injuries and disappointing play for much of the season. The bright spots lately were the improved play of Jabari Parker, the triple-double machine Giannis Antetokounmpo is becoming, and O.J. Mayo stepping into the lineup as the starting point guard and finding a bit more success than the Bucks were finding earlier in the season. With Mayo starting, the Bucks are 11-13 as opposed to 6-25 when he doesn't start.

Milwaukee is left with young point guard Tyler Ennis and veteran combo guard Jerryd Bayless as the most likely options for point guard duties the rest of the season. The Bucks had inquired about Minnesota Timberwolves' point guard Ricky Rubio at the trade deadline but wouldn't give up Khris Middleton in exchange for the Spaniard. The position has been an issue for them ever since moving Brandon Knight last season and bringing in Carter-Williams, the former Rookie of the Year.

Or maybe they'll just run the Greek Freak out there as the lead guard as much as possible and look to see if he can set the world on fire.
