There are freak accidents, and then there's stepping on a spike strip in a parking lot. I think that's in a category all its own.

The Lakers announced Steve Blake is out approximately three weeks after doing exactly that. The Lakers guard punctured his left foot on a spike strip in a parking lot. How? Who knows. But it doesn't sound like a pleasant thing to do however it happens.

Training camp begins in a week for the Lakers, meaning Blake will miss the beginning of it and likely a few preseason games.

Blake, 32, is the Lakers' primary backup point guard behind Steve Nash. He averaged 5.2 points and 3.3 assists in 53 games last season.
