  • Greg Smith: Signs with team in Turkey

Smith agreed to a contract Friday with Istanbul BSB of the Turkish Basketball Super League, Chris Reichert of Upside Motor reports.

Smith appeared in 18 games with the Timberwolves last season, averaging 2.4 points and 2.3 rebounds in 10.7 minutes per game. The team waived him earlier in the offseason, and after he failed to land a guaranteed contract from an NBA team, he'll take his talents to Turkey in an attempt to keep his career going.

  • Greg Smith: Waived by Timberwolves

Smith was waived by the Timberwolves on Thursday, Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reports.

Smith latched on with the Timberwolves in the middle of March after a pair of 10-day contracts, eventually inking a multi-year deal with the team. Smith ended up playing in 18 games, posting averages of 2.4 points and 2.3 rebounds over 11 minutes per outing. At just 25 years old, the 6-foot-10 big man still has some potential to grow into a more well-rounded player, so a team looking for some frontcourt help may be inclined to give him a look. At the very least, Smith should get a training camp invite with a chance to make a regular season roster.

  • Timberwolves' Greg Smith: Falls out of rotation

Smith (coach's decision) didn't see the court in Tuesday's 124-117 overtime victory over the Warriors.

It appears Smith has been at least temporarily dropped from coach Sam Mitchell's rotation, as this was the second game in a row in which he didn't see the floor. Though starting power forward Gorgui Dieng has seen his minutes cut down in the previous four games, it appears Mitchell has been content running more small-ball or floor-stretching lineups, as Nemanja Bjelica and Shabazz Muhammad have been the primary beneficiaries of added court time on the second unit. It may take an injury to one of the Wolves' healthy frontcourt options for Smith to reemerge as a rotation regular.

Smith was signed by the Timberwolves for the remainder of the season on Tuesday, and responded with a solid showing on Wednesday. Through 10 games since signing with the team in the beginning of March, Smith is averaging 2.8 points and 2.5 rebounds in 11 minutes per game.

  • Timberwolves' Greg Smith: Signs on for rest of season

Smith signed with the Timberwolves for the rest of the season Tuesday, Kent Youngblood of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Smith hasn't seen much extended run since signing his first of two 10-day deals at the beginning of the month, but the Timberwolves apparently liked what they've seen from the big man. He'll give the team some added depth down low while Nikola Pekovic (Achilles) and Kevin Garnett (knee) continue to face uncertain return timetables.

Smith will sign another 10-day contract with the Timberwolves, Jon Krawczynski of the Associated Press reports.

Smith's first 10-day deal is set to expire over the weekend, but the Wolves will bring back the forward for at least another week-and-a-half. After this second contract expires, the Wolves will either have to release Smith or sign him for the remainder of the season.

  • Timberwolves' Greg Smith: Available Tuesday

Smith (toe) will be available for Tuesday's game against the Spurs.

Smith came down with an infection in his toe recently but it doesn't appear that he'll be missing any time off the court despite the injury scare. Although, the reserve player has averaged just 12 minutes per game since joining the Timberwolves on a 10-day contract and won't be expected to have a significant workload Tuesday either.

  • Timberwolves' Greg Smith: Questionable for Tuesday

Smith is considered questionable for Tuesday's game against the Spurs due to a toe infection, Jerry Zgoda of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Smith is a new addition to the Timberwolves' most recent injury report, so the severity of his infection is a bit unclear, while his status for Tuesday won't be known until closer to tip off. If Smith is unable to play, the team's frontcourt will be thin, with Karl-Anthony Towns and Gorgui Dieng taking on larger roles.
