  • Omri Casspi: Retires from basketball

Casspi announced Sunday that he has retired from professional basketball, James Ham of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

A 2009 first-round pick of Sacramento, Casspi spent 10 seasons in the NBA before playing the past two years in his native Israel. Between stops with the Kings, Cavaliers, Rockets, Timberwolves, Pelicans, Warriors and Grizzlies, the 33-year-old Casspi averaged 7.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 20.3 minutes per contest in 588 regular-season appearances.

  • Omri Casspi: Continuing career in native country

Casspi signed a contract Tuesday with Israeli club Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv, John Askounis of Eurohoops.net reports.

The first Israeli player to ever appear in the NBA, Casspi will return to his home country after appearing in 588 regular-season contests over the past decade between the Kings, Cavaliers, Rockets, Pelicans, Timberwolves, Warriors and Grizzlies since being selected in the first round in the 2009 draft. The forward, who started his career with Maccabi when he was just 16 years old, should take on a vital role for the club as he returns to the EuroLeague. Since he's still just 31 years old, Casspi may have a shot at resurfacing in the NBA down the road.

  • Omri Casspi: Waived by Grizzlies

Casspi (knee) was waived by the Grizzlies on Thursday, Michael Wallace of the Grizzlies' official site reports.

Casspi recently underwent surgery to repair a torn right meniscus, and his return before the end of the season wasn't guaranteed, so it isn't all too surprising to see the Grizzlies part ways with the 30-year-old. Prior to getting cut loose, Casspi posted averages of 6.3 points and 3.2 rebounds in 14.4 minutes.

  • Grizzlies' Omri Casspi: To undergo knee surgery

An MRI revealed Friday that Casspi has a tear in his right meniscus that will require surgery.

This is unfortunate news for both Casspi and the Grizzlies, as it was originally believed that he was nursing knee soreness. He's slated to undergo surgery sometime next week, and a timetable for his return has not yet been released, although he's expected to be sidelined for around six weeks, per Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.

  • Grizzlies' Omri Casspi: Unavailable Friday

Casspi (knee) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Hornets.

Casspi's sore right knee will cost him a fourth straight game, which should allow 10-day signee to maintain a sizable role off the bench behind starting forwards Kyle Anderson and Jaren Jackson (quadriceps). The injury is a disappointing setback for Casspi, whose value had been on the rise with averages of 11.8 points (on 54.9 percent shooting from the field), 4.0 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 0.8 treys in 24.7 minutes per game over his six appearances prior to getting hurt.

  • Grizzlies' Omri Casspi: Out again Wednesday

Casspi (knee) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Timberwolves.

This will be Casspi's third straight absence with right knee soreness, as it looks like the Grizzlies are electing to be cautious with the veteran. His next opportunity to take the hardwood will be Friday in Charlotte.

Casspi (knee) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Nuggets, David Cobb of The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports.

  • Grizzlies' Omri Casspi: Doubtful to play Monday

The Grizzlies list Casspi (knee) as doubtful for Monday's game against the Nuggets.

Casspi is expected to be one of at least four players unavailable Monday, as Chandler Parsons (not with team), Dillon Brooks (toe) and Garrett Temple (shoulder) have already been ruled out. On a more fortunate note, Memphis could get a starting wing in Kyle Anderson (ankle) back from an extended absence, while another key rotational forward in JaMychal Green (knees) is listed as probable for the contest. Assuming Anderson and Green are both back in action this week, Casspi may not have a clear path to meaningful minutes once he's healthy again.

  • Grizzlies' Omri Casspi: Out Saturday

Casspi (knee) won't play in Saturday's game against Indiana, David Cobb of The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports.

  • Grizzlies' Omri Casspi: Listed as doubtful Saturday

Casspi (knee) is listed as doubtful for Saturday's game against INdiana.

The extent of Casspi's injury is unclear, but he appears to have picked it up in Friday's tilt with Sacramento during which he scored 18 points, grabbed five rebounds and swiped four balls. Look for more information about the severity of his knee soreness to come out ahead of Monday's matchup with the Nuggets, but if he were forced to miss any time, Justin Holiday would likely see an uptick in minutes.

  • Grizzlies' Omri Casspi: Scores 18 points in Friday's loss

Casspi recorded 18 points (8-11 FG, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, and four steals in 25 minutes during Friday's 99-96 loss to the Kings.

Casspi swiped a season high steal total while reaching double figures in scoring for the fourth time in his last six appearances. The 30-year-old veteran is averaging more minutes per game here in January than he had in any previous month this season. With that being said, he's only a viable option in deeper leagues.

  • Grizzlies' Omri Casspi: Absent from injury report

Casspi (illness) wasn't listed on the injury report ahead of Wednesday's game against Charlotte.

Casspi appears to have returned to health after sitting out of Monday's contest due to illness. He figures to be a full go at home against the Hornets and could be in store for an uptick in minutes with Kyle Anderson (ankle) still out of the mix.

  • Grizzlies' Omri Casspi: Unavailable Monday

Casspi is unavailable for Monday's game against the Pelicans due to an illness.

It's unclear when the illness cropped up, but it will force Casspi to miss at least one game. With Kyle Anderson (ankle) also out, Yuta Watanabe could see some extra minutes Monday. Casspi's next chance to play will come Wednesday against Charlotte.

  • Grizzlies' Omri Casspi: Paces team in loss

Casspi scored a team-high 17 points (7-13 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 2-4 FT) while adding six rebounds and two assists in 36 minutes off the bench during Wednesday's 111-101 loss to the Bucks.

The minutes were a season high for Casspi, but his court time remains erratic -- he saw only four minutes each in back-to-back games at the beginning of January. Until he earns a more consistent role in the Grizzlies frontcourt rotation, The 30-year-old will be a tough player to roster in most fantasy formats.

  • Grizzlies' Omri Casspi: Leads bench with 12 points

Casspi totaled 12 points (4-6 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, a block and two steals over 25 minutes Monday against Houston.

Casspi saw more playing time than usual and made the most of his opportunity, scoring in double figures for the first time since Dec. 17 against the Warriors. Despite an above-average performance, Casspi's 5.2 ppg average through 30 games this season doesn't warrant a roster spot in most league formats.
