  • Arinze Onuaku: Waived by Magic

Onuaku was waived by the Magic on Saturday, Marc Stein of ESPN reports.

Onuaku's contract would have become fully guaranteed as Saturday evening, so the Magic will waive him in order to free up a roster spot. The Syracuse product appeared in only eight games for the Magic this season and has bounced around between four teams since entering the league in 2013.

  • Magic's Arinze Onuaku: Doesn't play Sunday

Onuaku (coach's decision) didn't see the floor in Sunday's 104-96 loss to the Bucks.

Onuaku and second-round rookie Stephen Zimmerman have typically alternated duties as one of the team's two inactives along with the injured Jodie Meeks (foot), but with Jeff Green (back) ruled out Sunday, but Onuaku and Zimmerman dressed. However, with coach Frank Vogel using an eight-man rotation in what was a competitive contest, neither Onuaku nor Zimmerman left the bench. Onuaku has made just two appearances in the Magic's 17 games on the season, logging 10 total minutes.

  • Magic's Arinze Onuaku: Gets camp invite from Orlando

Onuaku signed a training camp contract with the Magic on Wednesday, Brian K. Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Onuaku earned his invite to training camp on the strength of his performance for the Magic in summer league, during which he averaged 14.8 points, 9.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 24.4 minutes per game over five appearances. A traditional back-to-the-basket big man with limited shooting range, Onuaku is probably best suited for center duties at the NBA level, but at 6-foot-9, he's a little undersized for the position. Nonetheless, the Syracuse product will attempt to distinguish himself in camp and claim one of the two or three roster spots that could be up for grabs.
