Paul, undrafted out of Illinois in 2013, got his first taste of NBA action with the Spurs last season. He appeared in 64 games, averaging just over two points in 9.0 minutes per game. It's possible he opts to return to the G League or head back overseas. He's spent time in both scenarios since leaving college.

Paul will start at small forward for Saturday's matchup with the Suns, Craig Grialou of the Arizona Republic reports.
The Spurs are set to be without Manu Ginobili, Pau Gasol and Tony Parker for rest Saturday, as well as both Kawhi Leonard (quad) and Kyle Anderson (knee) with their respective injuries. That allows Paul to pick up the start on the wing and he should be in line for a hefty workload with so little bodies available. Consider Paul a potential punt-play option for Saturday's slate, though his stint in the top unit will likely just last one game.

Paul provided 18 points (6-8 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 3-3 FT), five rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in 30 minutes during Monday's 108-94 loss to the Celtics.
Paul posted career highs in scoring, rebounding, made field goals and free throws, and threes. He also matched his career best in blocks. While Paul doesn't figure to be in the mix for too many minutes once Kawhi Leonard (quad) returns, the 26-year-old rookie could carve out a decent role for himself as the fourth or fifth wing on the depth chart behind Leonard, Danny Green, Rudy Gay, and the ageless Manu Ginobili, who will occasionally receive the night off to rest -- as he did on Monday.

Paul played a season-high 21 minutes Friday after playing 19 minutes Wednesday. The 26-year-old has seen an increase in minutes since Kawhi Leonard (quadriceps) has been out for the Spurs' first five games. Paul will likely move back to the end of the bench when Leonard returns.

Spurs' Brandon Paul: Signs with Spurs
Paul signed a deal Thursday with the Spurs, freelance reporter David Pick reports.
Paul has been absent from the NBA since he was waived by the 76ers prior to the start of the 2016 season. The former Illinois star, however, has been very impressive in summer league thus far, averaging 14.3 points per game in Las Vegas and 16.5 points per game in Orlando. As of now, the Spurs have plenty of backcourt depth, so it's likely the team just keeps the guard through training camp and preseason before letting him go.
