Hewitt's last NFL action came with the Colts, where he appeared in 12 games but caught just one pass, which was a one-yard touchdown in the team's season regular season finale against Tennessee. Delanie Walker has the No. 1 tight end spot locked up in Tennessee, leaving Hewitt to battle for a backup role.

Hewitt's status for Sunday's pivotal winner-take-all tilt with Tennessee seems largely up in the air at this point. Should he return to practice later this week, that would be a good sign moving forward. For now, it's closer to 50-50 odds. The Colts are dealing with injuries to Eric Ebron (concussion) and Jack Doyle (torso), so Hewitt's availability has taken on a larger significance than usual circumstances would dictate.

Colts' Ryan Hewitt: Gearing up Sunday
Hewitt (ribs) is active for Sunday's game versus the Cowboys.
Hewitt recorded a full practice Friday but still ended up on the injury report. The 27-year-old has overcome his minor issue and is ready to go as the Colts No. 3 tight end. That spot in the lineup gives Hewitt little fantasy upside, especially since the Cowboys have yielded just six touchdowns to tight ends this year.

Hewitt initially popped up on the injury report after registering a full practice Friday. Even though he practiced in full, he must've received medical treatment for his ribs injury. Hewitt didn't carry an injury designation on the injury report Friday, however, so his sudden downgrade comes with some concern. If Hewitt isn't able to play, Mo Alie-Cox (calf) would likely see an increase in snaps if he can make his return after missing the last three games -- otherwise, Eric Ebron would be the only healthy tight end for the Colts.

Colts' Ryan Hewitt: Cleared for Sunday
Hewitt (ankle) doesn't carry an injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Jaguars, Andrew Walker of the Colts' official site reports.
Hewitt practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday and Thursday but was able to end the week with a full practice Friday. The Stanford product is one of four tight ends listed on the injury report, and that doesn't even include Jack Doyle, who was placed on injured reserve Monday after requiring emergency surgery on his kidney. Mo Alie-Cox (calf) is the only tight end on the active roster that has already been declared out for Sunday.

Hewitt's ability to practice in a limited capacity Wednesday is a step in the right direction, given that he didn't suit up for a single practice last week. The depth tight end has missed three straight games due to a lingering ankle issue, and his status for Sunday's tilt against the Jaguars remains up in the air. With Eric Ebron (back), Erik Swoope (knee) and Mo Alie-Cox (calf) all nursing injuries, Hewitt could be in line for a notable workload if he's able to play Week 13.
