Taylor was placed on IR on Nov. 11 after suffering a groin injury. Prior to that, he recorded 11 tackles on defense and one on special teams. He is once again expected to help provide depth at linebacker.

Panthers' Adarius Taylor: Designated for return
Taylor (undisclosed) was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday, Bill Voth of the Panthers' official site reports.
The Florida Atlantic product was placed on injured reserve Nov. 11, but it appears his return may be on the horizon. Carolina now has 21 days to either move Taylor back onto the active roster or designate him for season-ending IR. In nine 2020 appearances pre-injury, Taylor compiled 14 tackles and one tackle for loss in a role that consisted primarily of special-teams work.

The Panthers placed Taylor (undisclosed) on injured reserve Wednesday, Will Bryan of the team's official site reports.
The reason for his placement on IR is unclear, but Taylor has accumulated 14 tackles (nine solo) in nine games while being limited to mostly a special teams role. Taylor will need to reside on IR for at least three weeks, which leaves Jermaine Carter and Julian Stanford as the team's only healthy depth linebackers on the roster.

Panthers' Adarius Taylor: Set to start Sunday
Taylor is slated to start at outside linebacker Sunday against the Chiefs following news that Jeremy Chinn (knee) has been ruled out, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
While Taylor is the formal starter, coach Matt Rhule relayed Sunday that it will take a group effort to replace Chinn's contributions. Chinn consistently lines up at strong-side linebacker and strong safety, and he's in the mix for Defensive Rookie of the Year. Taylor likely will play a majority of the defensive snaps still, but Julian Stanford and Jermaine Carter could rotate in, too.

The Browns will save nearly $2.5 million against the salary cap in 2020, and Taylor will be immediately available to sign with a new team. The 29-year-old linebacker played just 54 defensive snaps in 2019, but he did contribute on special teams. He'll likely seek a similar role with another franchise.

Taylor was thought to be a significant addition after signing a two-year deal during the offseason. He had come off a nice season with Tampa Bay, for whom he made 10 starts in 2018, but the Browns often went with a 4-2-5 look, limiting the need for a third linebacker. When Christian Kirksey (pectoral) went down in Week 2, they used rookie Mack Wilson as a starter along with Joe Schobert. Taylor's currently the second-highest paid linebacker on the roster. A new coaching regime could result in a bigger role for Taylor, but there's a better chance the Browns cut him, which would save them $2.4 million in cap space in 2020.
