Shelby (calf) is expected to be fully recovered in time for training camp, Matt Winkeljohn of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Shelby ended the 2016 campaign on injured reserve due to the calf injury. He appeared in six games last season and accrued eight tackles and no sacks, and could see his role diminish further in 2017 with the Falcons acquiring Dontari Poe to bolster their defensive line.
Shelby (calf) is progressing in his recovery and is expected to be ready for the 2017 regular season, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal Consitution reports.
Shelby suffered a season ending calf injury back in October, but has been bulking up during his rehab and should be a full go come the start of the season. The defensive tackle might see a decrease in usage this year however, with the Falcons having acquired Dontari Poe in free agency.
Shelby (calf) was placed on the IR on Tuesday.
Shelby suffered a calf injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Seahawks, effectively ending the 27-year-old's season. In six games this season, he recorded eight tackles (six solo) and one pass deflection. Expect veteran Jonathan Babineaux to see an increase in reps, with Courtney Upshaw now serving as the only healthy reserve defensive tackle on the roster.
Reports indicate that Shelby couldn't put any weight on his right leg, hinting at the possibility that this could be a serious injury. More will be known as he undergoes further evaluation.
